About this template

Overview

Apropos is a vocabulary builder for adults who read and write: five good words a day, each kept with reviews timed to memory and used in the person's own sentences. A word is set like a dictionary entry on an index card; the one accent, a highlighter yellow, marks the words being learned, on every screen.

The decks are data. The sample dictionary has eight decks (precise verbs, words for feelings, work, words from French, rare words, nature, test prep, food) with 130 entries written for the app, so a tutor, a school or a creator can ship their own words, exam lists or another language in the same frame.

Key features

  • Today: five index cards a day, Learn it or I know it, and a summary when the five are set

    Today
  • Use it: the coach answers Natural, Almost or Not quite, marks the fix in the sentence and suggests a stronger one

    Use it
  • Review: one card at a time, four answers that each show the next review, and practice rounds

    Review
  • Word page: meanings, examples, the origin as a path, close and opposite words, and the person's own sentences

    Word page
  • From reading: the words worth keeping, highlighted in a pasted paragraph

    From reading
  • Progress: words learned over time, the streak, reviews per day, recall and each deck

    Progress

Screens

Welcome, three onboarding questions (what the words are for, a 15-word level check, the daily pace and a reminder) and the plan built from them, the paywall with its trial timeline, Today, a word, Use it, Review, the review session, practice (fill the gap, spell it, match meanings), Words with Learning, Known, Saved and Mine, Add a word, From reading, Decks, a deck, Progress, Settings, Save your progress with a 6-digit code, About, Terms and Privacy: 24 screens, light and dark.

AI and backend

Supabase keeps each person's words, reviews, daily sets and sentences, each row readable only by its owner, and the dictionary every phone reads. The server makes a day's five once, in the person's own time zone, and caps new words by plan. One Edge Function runs four AI tasks with Gemini (check a sentence, look up a word, find words in a text, read a word aloud) against a daily allowance. Everyone starts as a guest; an email with a 6-digit code keeps the same words on another phone.

Monetisation

Apropos Pro through RevenueCat, yearly with a 7-day free trial or weekly: up to 15 new words a day, 200 AI checks a day instead of 5, Hear it, and two more card colours. Reviews and practice stay free.

Setup

It opens on a sample learner two weeks in, with no setup. Connect Supabase for accounts and the dictionary in the cloud, add your Gemini key for the coach, then RevenueCat for Pro. The daily reminder is a local notification.

Set up after you fork

Your copy opens with the AI assistant that built it. Do the steps in order: connect what a step asks for under Server, then send each prompt.

  1. Connect Supabase and apply Apropos's migrations

Server › Backend › Supabase. Apply the three migrations in supabase/migrations in name order (the AI kit, Apropos, the sample dictionary), then turn on anonymous sign-ins in Supabase's Authentication settings.

    Prompt for the AI

Connect this app to my Supabase project: set EXPO_PUBLIC_SUPABASE_URL and EXPO_PUBLIC_SUPABASE_ANON_KEY, apply the migrations in supabase/migrations in name order, and check that a new guest gets today's five words from Supabase.

  2. Send 6-digit codes from Supabase

Keep the Email provider on, set the email OTP length to 6, and put {{ .Token }} in the Magic Link and Change Email Address templates, so Save your progress and a second phone use a code.

    Prompt for the AI

Walk me through Supabase Authentication: email OTP length 6, and the {{ .Token }} code in the Magic Link and Change Email Address templates, then test Save your progress with my email.

  3. Add the Gemini key under API keys & secrets

Server › API keys & secrets: GEMINI_API_KEY, AI_FREE_UNITS_PER_DAY=5 and AI_PRO_UNITS_PER_DAY=200. The coach, look-ups and From reading use them.

    Prompt for the AI

Add GEMINI_API_KEY, AI_FREE_UNITS_PER_DAY=5 and AI_PRO_UNITS_PER_DAY=200 as secrets for the ai function.

  4. Deploy the AI and webhook functions

Deploy supabase/functions/ai and supabase/functions/revenuecat-webhook (the webhook with JWT verification off), then check the allowance with the usage task.

    Prompt for the AI

Deploy the ai and revenuecat-webhook Edge Functions in supabase/functions with my secrets (revenuecat-webhook with JWT verification off), then call the ai function with { "task": "usage" } and check a sentence from the app.

  5. Sell Apropos Pro with RevenueCat

Server › Monetization: an entitlement "pro", a yearly package with a 7-day free trial and a weekly one, the public SDK keys, and the webhook URL with its secret.

    Prompt for the AI

Set up Apropos Pro with RevenueCat: entitlement pro, offering default with $rc_annual (7-day free trial) and $rc_weekly, add EXPO_PUBLIC_REVENUECAT_IOS_KEY and EXPO_PUBLIC_REVENUECAT_ANDROID_KEY, set REVENUECAT_WEBHOOK_SECRET and register the revenuecat-webhook URL in RevenueCat.

  6. Write your own decks

The decks are src/services/dictionary/entries.ts. Edit or replace them (another language works the same way), then npm run seed:dictionary rewrites the dictionary migration to apply.

    Prompt for the AI

Replace the sample decks in src/services/dictionary/entries.ts with my words (I'll give you the list), keeping the entry shape, then run npm run seed:dictionary and apply the regenerated dictionary migration to my Supabase project.

Questions

Is it free?

Copying a free template costs nothing, not even credits; a Premium one is a one-time purchase per website. Chat changes and builds use credits.

What do I own?

You own the app made for you. The template’s code stays InspireUI’s and is licensed for use in your apps (Terms › Our intellectual property).

Do I need to know code?

No. Ask the assistant for changes in plain words; the full source is there when you want it.

Does it come with a backend?

No. A full app names the backend it needs and you connect your own under Server; a design runs on sample data.

Can I change the design?

Yes. The Design tab sets the brand colour, colours, fonts and corners at no credit cost; the assistant changes the rest.

Which plan do I need to publish?

Creator or higher builds and uploads to the stores, with your own Apple and Google accounts. A Premium template’s app builds on any plan once its website is connected.

Can I download the source?

Yes, with Download source or Push to GitHub, once your workspace has bought a plan, credits or a paid template. A Premium template’s app also needs its website connected.

What if it was made with an earlier FluxNative?

Your copy works as it is. Ask the assistant to update it for newer features such as app languages and currencies; it is the last setup step.

Ready to make it yours?

Start from Apropos Vocabulary Builder App and change anything by chat. Your copy comes with the full source.

Free to copy. No credit card required.
