About this template

Overview

A ledger notebook, coins, a receipt and a jar with a sprout: budgeting by hand

Ballast is a budget and spending tracker for people who budget by hand. The person answers four questions (take-home pay, bills, which categories to budget, a savings goal) and gets the month planned: pay minus bills minus the goal is the spending room, shared into category budgets. From then on Home says what is left and what that is a day.

It is manual by design: no bank login, no card numbers. Purchases come from a keypad or a receipt photo; the AI reads the receipt and the person checks it before saving. It records and adds up the person's own numbers and gives no financial advice.

Key features

  • Home: money left this month, a daily figure, the pace line and the purchases the AI filed for checking

    Home
  • Add: a keypad, categories suggested from the merchant, account, date and note

    Add
  • Receipts: a photo read by AI into merchant, total, lines and category, with confidence in words

    Receipts
  • Budgets: every category on one screen, each with its week-by-week spending

    Budgets
  • Plan: bills on a 14-day strip and illustrated savings goals with a target date

    Plan
  • Reports: money in against money out for six months, a category donut and net worth

Screens

Welcome and four first-run questions, the planned month, Home, Activity with filters, a purchase (category, split, leave out of budget), Add, Scan and its check, Budgets, a category's budget, Edit budgets, Plan, Bills, a bill, a new bill, a goal, a new goal, Reports, Month review, Accounts, an account, Ask, Settings with Categories, Reminders and Delete my data, the paywall, About, Terms and Privacy: 34 screens, light and dark.

AI and backend

Supabase holds accounts, categories, transactions, budgets, bills, goals and their history, each row readable only by its owner; account balances follow transactions in a database trigger. One Edge Function runs four AI tasks with Gemini (read a receipt, file purchases, answer a question, review a month) against a daily allowance, and keeps receipt photos in a private bucket.

Monetisation

Ballast Pro through RevenueCat (monthly and yearly): every receipt and question, every goal, every month of reports, the month review and CSV export. Free keeps three receipt scans a day, two goals and three months of reports.

Setup

It opens on a sample month with no setup. Connect Supabase for accounts in the cloud and the AI, add your Gemini key, then RevenueCat for Pro. Bill reminders are local notifications.

Set up after you fork

Your copy opens with the AI assistant that built it. Do the steps in order: connect what a step asks for under Server, then send each prompt.

  1. Connect Supabase and apply Ballast's migrations

Server › Backend › Supabase. Turn on anonymous sign-ins, then apply the four migrations in supabase/migrations in order: the AI kit, the ledger, the bill marks, and a card's due day with the AI's second guess.

    Prompt for the AI

Connect this app to my Supabase project: set EXPO_PUBLIC_SUPABASE_URL and EXPO_PUBLIC_SUPABASE_ANON_KEY, apply the migrations in supabase/migrations in order, and check that the ledger reads and writes Supabase once a person finishes the first-run questions.

  2. Turn on the AI receipt reader and Ask

Server › API keys & secrets: add GEMINI_API_KEY and AI_FREE_UNITS_PER_DAY=6, then deploy the ai function from supabase/functions/ai.

    Prompt for the AI

Deploy the ai Edge Function in supabase/functions/ai with my GEMINI_API_KEY secret and AI_FREE_UNITS_PER_DAY=6, then test scan-receipt and ask-money from the app.

  3. Sell Ballast Pro with RevenueCat

Server › Monetization: an entitlement "pro" with a monthly and a yearly product, the public SDK keys, and the revenuecat-webhook function with its secret.

    Prompt for the AI

Set up Ballast Pro with RevenueCat: entitlement pro with monthly and yearly products, add the iOS and Android public SDK keys, deploy the revenuecat-webhook function with REVENUECAT_WEBHOOK_SECRET and register its URL in RevenueCat.

  4. Put in your own Terms and Privacy

Set EXPO_PUBLIC_TERMS_URL, EXPO_PUBLIC_PRIVACY_POLICY_URL and EXPO_PUBLIC_SUPPORT_URL, or reword the in-app pages with your business name.

    Prompt for the AI

Reword the in-app Terms and Privacy pages in src/features/legal with my business name and contact email.

Questions

Is it free?

Copying a free template costs nothing, not even credits; a Premium one is a one-time purchase per website. Chat changes and builds use credits.

What do I own?

You own the app made for you. The template’s code stays InspireUI’s and is licensed for use in your apps (Terms › Our intellectual property).

Do I need to know code?

No. Ask the assistant for changes in plain words; the full source is there when you want it.

Does it come with a backend?

No. A full app names the backend it needs and you connect your own under Server; a design runs on sample data.

Can I change the design?

Yes. The Design tab sets the brand colour, colours, fonts and corners at no credit cost; the assistant changes the rest.

Which plan do I need to publish?

Creator or higher builds and uploads to the stores, with your own Apple and Google accounts. A Premium template’s app builds on any plan once its website is connected.

Can I download the source?

Yes, with Download source or Push to GitHub, once your workspace has bought a plan, credits or a paid template. A Premium template’s app also needs its website connected.

What if it was made with an earlier FluxNative?

Your copy works as it is. Ask the assistant to update it for newer features such as app languages and currencies; it is the last setup step.

Ready to make it yours?

Start from Ballast Budget & Spending Tracker App and change anything by chat. Your copy comes with the full source.

Free to copy. No credit card required.
